causes of receding hairline

There are many causes of a receding hairline. Sometimes it is just your age knocking on your door, but occasionally it can be avoided.

Ancestral

This is the main cause of hair loss and there is not much you can do about it. It is related to genetics and your male sex hormones. It starts with a receding hairline and thinning hair on the dome, and it leads to male pattern baldness, forming an U-shape around the sides of the head. 40% of the men will experience a form of thinning hair by the age of 35.

Stress

A different cause for hair loss is stress. Anxiety can result in thinning hair and it can make hair loss more difficult to control. Long term and persistent stress will lead in some cases to the loss of large clumps of hair, or the preparation of more hairs than normal to fall out. In severe cases it can lead to a person pulling out hair without realizing it.

Hair loss can also be the trigger of stress. Because people start to lose their hair, they can feel anxious or insecure, when they are worrying too much. Stress and hair loss have a complex relationship.

Your hair could come back, if you have suffered from too much stress or anxiety, when you reduce the cause. But this will not always be the case for everybody. You need to reduce the stress relating to your hair loss and the stress you from losing your hair.

Nutrition

Sometimes nutrition can be the cause of a receding hairline. A balanced diet is important to keep your hair healthy and look and feel good. Protein, iron and other nutrients – vitamins and minerals – are basic ingredients to have a healthy scalp and grow hair appropriately out of every follicle.

A strand of hair consists mostly of protein. To grow it also needs protein as each individual hair grows for about 2 to 3 years. After this it will enter a resting phase of about 3 months and then it will be shed and replaced by new hair. Without enough protein an excessive amount of hairs might go into the resting phase, which will make the hair loss noticeable.

So having a balanced diet with enough protein can help you prevent your hair from falling out prematurely.
